ETL vs ELT
ETL and ELT describe the order of three steps: extract data from sources, transform it, and load it into analytical storage.
The difference
ETL (extract, transform, load) cleans and reshapes data before it lands. It was common when storage and compute were expensive.
ELT (extract, load, transform) lands raw data first and transforms it inside a scalable warehouse or lakehouse. Transformations are often written in SQL and kept in version control, which makes them easier to review and share.
